Team Lew's Pro Wesley Strader Gets First B.A.S.S. Elite Win!

Strader's first win on the Bassmaster Elite Series didn't come easy and was in large part due to his superior casting ability.

Being versatile, paying attention to conditions and precise cast were key to Wesley Strader’s win on Kentucky Lake. For Strader, this meant fishing a mixture of boat docks and flooded bushes with a variety of baits, including a spinnerbait, buzzbait, crankbait, frog and texas rig. When targeting docks, Strader relied on precise cast under and around dock walkways with a crankbait and spinnerbait. Between the docks he would skip a buzzbait and frog far under bushes and over hangs. His bush flipping bite consisted of targeting horizontal structure along the outer edge of the submerged bush line with a texas rig.

Strader's first win on the Bassmaster Elite Series didn't come easy and was in large part due to his superior casting ability, which many saw on Bass Live, and his willingness to adapt every single day of the event. When Lew's released the Team Lew's Pro Magnesium a few years back, Strader, like many pro's, fell in love with the overall look and feel of the reel. Since Strader likes to keep consistency across his gear on the water, he opted for a reel that allows him to fish most of his primary techniques without changing reel models. Once he tried the Team Lew’s Pro Magnesium Baitcast Reel, Strader saw just how versatile the reel actually was. Strader was able to apply the reel to a wide variety of techniques, including skipping a bait far up under targets and making precise flips when it mattered the most. Strader noted, “That Team Lew’s Pro Magnesium was the ticket this week when switching back and forth between baits. I reached for the 6.8:1 for the spinnerbait and buzzbait, and opted for the quicker 7.5:1 on the frog and texas rig so I could take up slack line in a hurry.”

After only three events on the Bassmaster Elite Series, Strader captured his first win. Congratulations to Wesley Strader for his first Bassmaster Elite Series win. This is just the beginning of a long and successful career on the Bassmaster Elite Series.
