Unlike casting reels that come in right- or left-hand versions, most spinning reels let you switch the handle from one side to the other for right- or left-hand cranking. The way you change the handle on a Lew’s spinning reel depends on which model you have or plan to buy.
On some Lew’s spinning reels, the handle shaft screws into a cap on
the opposite side of the reel’s body. To switch the handle from one side to the other, unscrew the cap and pull the handle’s shaft out of the reel. Then insert the shaft into the opposite side of the reel and screw the cap securely to the end of the shaft.
With Lew’s spinning reels that do not use this system, the cap serves only as a cover. The handle shaft screws directly into the reel’s internal workings.
To make the switch, crank the handle in reverse to free it. Pull the shaft out of the reel and remove the cap from the opposite side. Insert the handle’s shaft where you removed the cap and crank forward until the handle locks in. Then secure the cap to the opposite side of the reel.
Either process can be done easily in a few minutes.
